Veteran Application

Honor Flight Maine proudly recognizes and honors all Maine veterans for their dedicated service by providing them with the opportunity to travel to Washington, DC, to visit and reflect at their memorials.

Eligibility is straightforward and determined by one simple question: “Did you serve?” (We do not require a DD-214 form, as it includes sensitive personal information.) Importantly, it does not matter which branch of the military a veteran served in, the length of their service, their rank, or whether their service was overseas, stateside, or in combat.

When selecting veterans for upcoming trips, we sort our database by age, starting with the eldest. The only exception to this policy pertains to veterans living with life-limiting illnesses who have a doctor’s affirmation indicating they likely have less than a year to live. These veterans are prioritized and placed on the next available trip.

Each veteran will travel to Washington, DC, accompanied by a guardian (escort) for the weekend. It is crucial to understand that the guardian cannot be the veteran’s spouse, partner, or significant other. Typically, guardians are chosen from among the veteran’s
children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or close friends. Furthermore, we cannot assign a veteran to a trip until their guardian’s application has been submitted and
received.
